Two other suspects were arrested.
Otto Simpson, 29, of Camden, was one of four people in a car that Camden County Police officers tried to pull over on the 2700 block of North Saunders Street at about 2:45 p.m, Wednesday, Nov. 9, Camden County police said.
As police tried to stop the car, Simpson got out and shot at police, police said. Simpson and a second man in the car then ran to a garage on the 2600 block of High Street. While police arrested the second man, Simpson barricaded himself in the garage.
Both officers who were shot at were transported to Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and were cleared to go home later in the day. Neither was physically injured.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) was activated and assisted the CCPD, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police and the Camden County Office of Public Safety to apprehend Simpson.
Simpson was taken into custody without injury at 7:52 p.m. Multiple firearms were recovered from the site.
Simpson was charged with first-degree attempted murder and several weapons offenses. He was being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Heriberto Sanchez, 23, of Camden, was charged with resisting arrest and weapons offenses. He was being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Tiara Simpson had several outstanding warrants and also was sent to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
